In Humanities class we’ve been reading a book called The Other Side of Truth. I thought that the book was between OK and AWESOME. I really like the introduction because it started with something bad, and I have never actually read a book that starts with a bad beginning besides the book The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket, and so it’s kind of cool. The author used very descriptive words to describe the situation, for example:
“Papa is kneeling in the driveway. Mama partly curled up against him. One bear leg stretches out in front of her. His strong hands grip her, trying to halt the growing scarlet mon. But it has already spread down her bright white nurse’s uniform. It stains the earth around them.” – pg. 3
As I read this part, I can imagine it in my head, I could feel how Papa felt, I could see Mama’s white nurse’s dress turning red, and then staining the earth. I love the way she explains each situation with really descriptive words, and also the way she organized her writing, it makes the writing rich.
What I dislike about the book is that the ending was a bit too choppy. I wish it would expand a little more because there are lots of other situations happening, and so I wanted to know more, but can’t. That;s why I would rate the book between OK and AWESOME.
